Applications for the Africa Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders(AFYEL) are ongoing and the deadline for this application is August 20th, 2021. The Africa Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders is an educational program initiated by the Renewable Energy Technology Training Institute in partnership with RETTI virtual university, top academic institutions, private sector companies, and government agencies. The program is primarily designed to invest in the next generation of energy leaders who will bring about a zero-carbon Africa.
The sole aim of the program is to teach, train and raise recent graduates of physics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, and Solar Energy on core perspectives of renewable energy technology and also opportunities for career advancement in the energy value chain.
The Africa Fellowship for Young Energy Leaders offers the knowledge of international experts on four different groups or aspects of renewable energy technologies:
- Bioenergy
- Solar PV
- Small scale hydropower
- Onshore wind
and also three(3) core aspects which include: Financing, Economics, and Engineering.
The program is primarily focused on Africa.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be:
Between the ages of 21 and 30 on or before the application deadline.
A citizen of any African country.
A graduate of either physics, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Finance/Accounting, Physics, and Solar Energy, Chemical Engineering, Building, and Construction Engineering.
Read, write and speak English.
SELECTION CRITERIA
The following criteria will be used to evaluate applications :
An energetic, positive attitude.
The ability to work cooperatively in diverse groups and to respect the opinions of others.
Strong social and communication skills.
A demonstrated knowledge of interest and professional experience in the renewable energy, economics, finance, or engineering field.
A demonstrated commitment to public or community service.
A proven record of leadership and accomplishment in renewable energy and industry.
